Tom Line Presents Haircuts

This is the first installment of 'Tom Line', so what did I choose to talk about? Well I decided to analyse a factor which has had several hours of debating inside and outside cyfa. This is the haircut.

So what triggered me to discuss such a topic, well since I have been in CYFA I have seen some extreme changes and been the victim of one as well. But in the summer of summers, we saw Bretts long locks exchanged for a new style, which stu watts has explained exclusively to Tom Line only in an interview with me last week in Lihou Island, Stu said "It looks great however there are shades of Ricki in there, however the women are falling at his feet."

So how has the Guernsey style setting CYFA group set the standard for haircuts, well........

First we'll start with me, the star of 'Tom Line', Tommy Martin. After my traumatic first hairstyle in CYFA, of longish, untidy, curly and messy hair, (a bit like Daves now, but without the mullet, but i'll come to that later!). Since then I have had a steady recovery to a stylish cut which I am happy with. However, I have stumbled on that long journey. The 'Summer of 1999' saw the self applied ginger highlights which were quite loud, at the time I believed they were cool at the time, but according to Emma Wilson, the style Guru (!?!), it didn't (however she is no one to talk about highlights!). So I made the transition from what can only be described as a shaggy cut, which all photographic evidence was destroyed long ago, to a shaved head for a period, onto the slightly longer, but tidy short cut periods. I thought it was only right for me to go first as know I can give my opinion fully on everything else.

So from one Martin boy to another. Ben has finally in the last couple of months got rid of the untidy mob of hair, which had no real style. He also fell victim to ginger highlights, however survived this as well to change his image to a new smart cut as shown in the pictures below (there are pictures of pretty much everyone who I talk about).

Members such as Shaun, Jake and Phibbsy, have all lost hair in the last couple of months. This seems to be a common pattern inside the group. Shaun opted for the shaven head, where as Jake and Phibbsy lost their dark and ginger locks respectively. In my opinion all these look much better, they are a change for the good.

So what about the girls? Well many have stayed with a similiar style, however out of them all two culprits shineout. Claire Le Tiisiers hair has gradually got shorter, however now it has grown long again. The question is what will she do next? Rachels hair has not changed much however last summer we were shocked (the boys) at her dreadlocks, which was a very interesting choice of style.

Anyway moving on swiftly, whats that I hear you cry 'What about Jack?'. Well in my eyes Jacks hair style has had no real change, he is like the 'control' in the experiment. He has his own individual style which no one can really copy, and look good like him.

Jow next, he has probably faced one of the most severe changes in hairstyle. He again lost a substanual length of hair and also colour! Joe has gone for the bleached short cut, which has earned him the new nickname of 'Slim Shady', due to the remarkable resemblence.

So finally Dave, he has had as many styles as anyone in the group. However at the moment he is trying to predict a style which be very dangerous in hairstyle terms. Instead of going short, he is growing it long. He is going against the crowd, and I admire that man for doing that. However there are big hurdles to jump in his ultimate goal. That is to get long hair for the future, he has to suffer a mullet for the present. The mullet is not stylish cut, however the question is, 'Is it worth it?' Well I am sure it will work well, but watch this space!

Well that was my column, haircuts I'm sure will change even more. When you leader has had more different coloured highlights then a rainbow and the continuous debate with her about the sexuality of her hairdresser. All I can say with some of the styles inside out CYFA group is 'Things Can Only Get Better'.
